When I decided to cycle across Europe, I decided to travel from North to South to avoid some of the hot/humid weather in central and Southern Europe during the summer months. Naturally, I wanted to start as far North as conveniently possible with all my travel gear. I contemplated beginning in Norway, but flights ended up being cheaper from LAX to Stockholm. Another reason I chose to start in Stockholm was because my dad and sister had traveled there the summer before and spoke highly of it. Personally, knowing that my family had been there at one point made Stockholm seem more friendly and approachable. So Stockholm it was! My path through Sweden was a long one, but very worthwhile. Camping was also quite easy since the Swedes have a law called “The Right to Roam” which essentially allows you to camp just about anywhere other than private land. This made slow traveling very affordable as I didn’t need to pay for lodging outside of major cities.
